Corbin, also known as Lil’ Spooky or Spooky Black, is known mostly because of his music video for his song ‘Without You’. The video went viral back in 2014, with Noisey declaring it as an “instant classic”. Corbin became a hit on Soundcloud last year, as well as releasing the album Leaving in September, entrancing the internet with his depressed and desperate musings on love and sex.
If there’s one way to describe Corbin, he’s the incredible result of a mixture of James Blake and King Crule, and he could easily become the new face of music. But, it’s apparent that this kid still isn’t getting a lot of exposure.
Recently, Corbin has teamed up with Bobby Raps for a collaborative EP called Couch Potato – it’s the first proper studio release since the name change from Spooky Black. The track ‘Welcome to the Hell Zone’ opens the EP and gives the listener a real insider as to what they are about to experience and it does not disappoint. Bobby Raps and Corbin find the perfect balance between Raps’ steady, low-key, and controlled rapping alongside Corbin’s dark vocals. The pair create a two-dimensional song that hypnotizes the listener, over a one-dimensional – nevertheless, impressive – beat.
