Sophie McEvoy: Love Me Two Times from Strange Days (1967)

Growing up in a music-obsessed family has had its perks, especially as young kid discovering bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin for the first time through them constantly being played around the house. The Doors ended up being one of those bands, and I band that I idolized as a kid. Jim Morrison was other-worldly to me, along with the likes of musicians like David Bowie or Alice Cooper.

But The Doors had an extremely rare gift of being able to transport you to other realms whenever you listen to their songs, which ‘Love Me Two Times’ has always done for me. As soon as that opening guitar riff kicks in, it still gives me a sense of not only nostalgia from childhood, but also instantly gives me the feel of the psychedelic 60s that the majority of the bands I listened to as a kid reigned in.
My love for The Doors and this song have never died, but it’s nice to see it reappear in shows that are favourites of mine such as Californication (both the original and an amazing remix by Infected Mushroom) and the upcoming 60s police-procedural Aquarius – which has been using the song in the majority of its trailers.
