New cast members have been announced for the Rose Theatre’s adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, the first major production of the epic play in over 25 years.

A story of hope amidst tragedy, this retelling of The Caucasian Chalk Circle is set to include original songs and mischievous humour in recounting a young woman’s quest to rescue a child during times of revolution.

Joining the cast alongside Carrie Hope Fletcher as Grusha Vashnadze, are Jonathan Slinger (Oleanna, Bath Theatre Royal/West End), Ronny Jhutti (NW Trilogy, Kiln Theatre), Nickcolia King-N’da (Running with Lions, Lyric Hammersmith), Joanna Kirkland (Dear Evan Hansen, West End), Shiv Rabheru (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Sheffield Crucible/West End), Bridgitta Roy (Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s Globe), Zoe West (Jane Eyre, Stephen Joseph Theatre), and Adeola Yemitan (Much Ado About Nothing, RSC).

The new version of Brecht’s piece is being developed together with artistic director Christopher Haydon, MGC, playwright Steve Water (Limehouse, Donmar Warehouse), and with music by Michael Henry (Barber Shop Chronicles, National Theatre). Oli Townsend is set and costume designer, Lucy Cullingford is movement director, Mark Jonathan is lighting designer, and Gareth Fry is sound designer.

A captioned performance will take place on Saturday 15 October at 2.30pm, followed by an audio-described performance on Monday 17 October at 7.30pm.

The show will run from 1 October to 22 October 2022. Tickets can be found on The Rose Theatre website.
