Elle Kennedy’s book series titled Off Campus has found itself adapted for the small screen by Amazon MGM studios. For fans of the series, excitement is in the air, as the integral characters have also been cast.
The Deal is the first in a book series Off Campus, released in 2015. Finding major success amongst book fans, spurning two spin-off book series (Briar U and The Campus Diaries), the TV world is the next step for Kennedy’s Off Campus.
Ella Bright (known for BBC’s Malory Towers and The Crown) has been cast as Hannah, The Deal‘s female lead, alongside Belmont Cameli (known for Until Dawn and the Netflix original film Along for the Ride) who has been cast as Garrett. Taking on the remaining series regular roles are Mika Abdalla (Disney+’s Sex Appeal, The Pitt) as Allie, Stephen Kalyn (Cruel Intentions, Gen V) as Dean, Antonio Cipriano (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) as Logan, Jalen Thomas Brooks (The Pitt), as Tucker, and Josh Heuston (Heartbreak High, Dune: Prophecy) as Justin. The show will also be created by Louisa Levy who’ll serve as co-showrunner with Gina Fattore.
With the two leads of the series cast, it won’t be long until we see them on the small screen. Set to release on Prime Video, it is unclear whether the rollout schedule will be weekly or a full drop.
Like popular romance book and recent TV adaptation Bridgerton, where each book and season focuses on a different romantic pairing, it is unclear whether Off Campus will take a similar format. With five books in the Off Campus series, and three other couples featured in each (and a final instalment The Legacy focusing on the characters years later), there is plenty of material to go around.
The first book, The Deal, follows Hannah as she attends Briar University, pursuing a music degree, and Garrett, the hockey captain for the same University, and the romance that ensues as they meet. Garrett has a tight-knit friendship with four other hockey players, so hockey is sure to fill lots of screen time like its source material. With a dual perspective featured in the books, it’s likely we’ll get equal parts of Hannah and Garrett’s University life, along with the rest of the ensemble. So far, the synopsis gives us hints at the “romantic drama” that may unfold, as well as explorations of the “complexities of adulthood” that may come with a young adult focused series.
Off Campus will join a series of young-adult aimed content recently produced by Amazon MGM studios and other studios, focusing on college and university life in all its fun, thrilling, and sometimes dramatic glory. Therefore, fans can rest assured Off Campus is in safe hands.
