Netflix have announced that Christopher Landon, best known for Freaky and Happy Death Day, will be the writer and director of their new family adventure film We Have A Ghost.

Landon is also known for Disturbia and several films in the Paranormal Activity franchise.

The movie is due to star Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), alongside a cast including David Harbour (Black Widow), Jahi Di’Allo Winston (Charm City Kings), Tig Notaro (Army of the Dead), and Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus).

Erica Ash (Survivor’s Remorse), Isabella Russo (School of Rock the Musical), Niles Fitch (This Is Us), Faith Ford (Murphy Brown), and Steve Coulter (Shotgun Wedding) are also set to appear.

Landon’s screenplay will be based on Geoff Manaugh’s short story Ernest, billed as a “socially mediated ghost story” and originally published on the Vice Motherboard in October 2017. The film will follow the character of Kevin (Mackie), who finds a ghost named Ernest haunting his new house. Kevin becomes an internet sensation when news gets out, and so do his family. However, they unwittingly become targets of the CIA when the pair go undercover to try and learn more about the ghost’s past and why he is haunting Kevin’s home.

Landon took to Twitter to share the news that he has officially begun production on the film, adding that We Have A Ghostis not a horror movie” despite its supernatural subject matter. The director also said that he is “beyond excited to be working with these incredible people.”

Dan Halsted will produce the project with Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner. The team will also include executive producers Landon, John Fischer, Geoff Manaugh, Korey Budd, and Nathan Miller.

Filming for We Have A Ghost is due to begin later this month. It has not yet been announced when the film will be released.
