The Doctor and Donna Noble will reunite for the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who

Tennant’s last appearance as the Tenth Doctor was in 2013 for the 50th anniversary, The Day of the Doctor, and Tate was last seen as Donna in 2013 in The End of Time. Their reunion is something that has long-being hoped for by diehard fans of the show. Tennant and Tate’s chemistry as the Doctor and Donna cemented their place as fan favourites. Their series has been the most successful series of Doctor Who since its revival in 2005, with an average audience of more than 8 million per episode.

The pair will also be reuniting with Russell T Davies (Years and Years, It’s a Sin), who was responsible for the return of Doctor Who in 2005 and stayed on as showrunner until 2010. Davies’ return was announced in September 2021, and said that he is “beyond excited to be back on my favourite show.”

It is unknown how large a part Tennant and Tate will play in the 60th anniversary. The last time two Doctors were together was when Tennant played alongside the then Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith in the 50th. Davies has teased their return on Instagram, writing ‘”Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”

Although plans for the anniversary have been kept tightly under wraps, Tennant and Tate have been pictured on set in Camden this week standing outside the TARDIS, with the Tenth Doctor seemingly sporting a new coat!

This announcement comes after an already exciting week for Doctor Who fans, as Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the Fourteenth Doctor, taking over from Jodie Whitaker. After a weekend of exciting reveals, it is certain that the 60th anniversary will be something no one wants to miss!
