Over a decade since the hit noughties show ended, a new Desperate Housewives spin-off, currently named Wisteria Lane, is said to be in the works. The revamp will follow five new frenemies who live on the iconic Fairview Street.

The new show is set to be streamed on Hulu and produced by Disney’s Onyx Collective. Actress Kerry Washington will serve as an Executive Producer, alongside Pilar Savone, and Natalie Chaidez. The latter, whose other credits include, The Flight Attendant, will also write the show.

According to the initial report, by online website Deadline: “All the Wisteria neighbours are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white-picket fences and smiling Insta posts are SECRETS.”

Executive Producer, Washington goes on to say: “The idea is that it’s new times, there’s new challenges, it’s like – what happens on the cul-de-sac now? Washington was also asked if she would star in the show, however, said that she “can’t say any more” just yet.

The original series, created by Marc Cherry and starring the likes of Eva Longoria, Terri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Nicolette Sheridan and Felicity Huffman became an instant hit with viewers and critics alike when it first hit the small screen in 2004. It ran for more than 200 episodes across eight seasons, and accumulated 38 Emmy Nominations.

The show had a warm, community feel like Days of Our Lives yet managed to have the same sassiness, sexiness and style as Dynasty and Dallas. It’s currently unclear who will star in the revamp and whether or not it will capture new audiences in the same way it did back in the mid-noughties.

Either way, this is a clever move from TV executives to revive a beloved series that helped to define the American Soap Opera, Satire, and Drama scene for many generations, in the run-up to its 20th anniversary.

So, although we don’t know when the spin-off will be filmed or released, we can be sure it’s set to cause fireworks, whilst being wrapped up tightly in nostalgia, and hopefully limited retcons! In the meantime, you can watch the entirety of Desperate Housewives here on Disney+.
