Fans have been given a first look at the upcoming Assassin’s Creed adaptation.

Premièred during a special segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the teaser trailer offers a first look at this new story based on the long running Ubisoft video game series. In the film, Michael Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, a convict removed from the world through the work of the mysterious Abstergo corporation.

Under the watchful eyes of Sophia (Marion Cotillard) and Alan Rikkin (Jeremy Irons), Lynch is placed into the Animus, a machine that unlocks genetic memory. This devices then allows him to experience the life of his ancestor Aguilar de Nehra (also played by Fassbender) – an assassin operating during the Spanish Inquisition. Lynch soon finds himself being able to exhibit some of Aguilar’s skills as both their journeys continue in the past and present.

Accompanying the release of the trailer was a new promotion image for the film, showing Aguilar in the middle of a ‘Leap of Faith’ – a well-known Assassin move from the video games. The film also reunites Cotillard and Fassbender with their Macbeth director Justin Kurzel, with the cast also including Michael K. Williams (The Wire), Ariane Labed (Before Midnight) and Brendan Gleeson (Calvary).

Assassin’s Creed is due to be release in cinemas on December 21 2016. Watch the trailer below.
