Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite, has announced that the original season one map is set to return in a special in-game event, and it is “here to stay”.

The “Season OG” event allows players to relive the nostalgia of fan-favourite maps, weapons and loot, including the iconic shopping cart as well as map locations like “Tilted Towers” and “Junk Junction”. The feature was first rolled out last year as a month-long special event, it was a roaring success seeing 44 million players reliving the original game in a single day, breaking player count and hours played records.

This year, the event was rolled out again under the name Fortnite Remix, dropping the original name in anticipation of the reveal of the permanent feature. The mode allowed players to explore the features of “Chapter 2,” which spanned from October 2019 to February 2020.

On an X post, Fortnite announced the return of the highly anticipated mode saying: “THIS. IS. NOT. A. DRILL”. The announcement was met with widespread excitement and joy from its fans, with “Ninja” (Tyler Bevins), one of the most popular gaming streamers who shot to fame playing Fortnite commented “YEA HERE WE GO!” to the news, while fellow gaming streamer “Quackity” (Alexis) commented: “IM NEVER GONNA LEAVE MY COMPUTER WHEN THIS IS OUT”.

Fortnite was originally launched in 2017, gaining notoriety for its groundbreaking “Battle Royale” format, pitting players against one another in a free-for-all. The genre gained huge traction during the COVID-19 pandemic with competitors like Call of Duty Warzone and Apex Legends being released, however, Fortnite has remained one of the biggest games in the world with over a million daily players and around 650 million registered users.

Fortnite OG returns to the game on Friday, December 6, one week after this year’s Fortnite Remix ends.

Fortnite is available to play on PC, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch, with iOS and Android available via select stores and cloud streaming.
