Tatsumi Kimishima has been named as the new CEO of Nintendo, following the passing of Saturo Iwata in July.

Kimishima, who will officially take over on September 16, has previously been the Chief Financial Officer, and later President, of The Pokemon Company.

During his tenure as the CEO of Nintendo of America, he oversaw the development and introduction of the Wii and 3DS consoles before moving to a Human Resources at the company.

As for interim heads Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda, they will now become ‘Creative Fellow’ and ‘Technology Fellow’ respectively as part of the transfer of power.

Nintendo will now shift focus to launching more games and apps on mobile platforms – such as those under development at DeNA – and also the unveiling of their latest console, which is currently under development under the codename ‘NX’
