A new trailer has just been released for the new film by director Ridley Scott, House of Gucci

The film is based on the 2001 book The House Of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. While the trailer doesn’t reveal too much, it is packed with enough decadent imagery, elegant costume and ominous music to whet our appetite.

The film is based on the true story of Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted in 1998 for ordering the murder of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci, head of the Gucci fashion house. The plot will focus on the lead-up to the trial of Reggiani, who was convicted and imprisoned for 18 years.

While this short but sweet trailer does not yet unveil any of the drama or scandal surrounding the assassination, it does immerse us in a world of glamour and prosperity to peak our interest.

This film boasts a stellar cast of Oscar nominated actors such as Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, in the main roles of Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci respectively. Many of Gaga’s fans are already excited after hearing her “crisp” and “flawless” Italian accent. This hype has practically reached a crescendo with many fans already predicting another Oscar nomination.

Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, Jack Huston, and an unrecognisable Jared Leto complete the all-star cast.

In an interview with GQ about the film, the author Sara Gay Forden discussed how the original true story seemed almost ‘Made-for-Hollywood,’ saying “I think this was a story where life is stranger than fiction. And I often thought if I had tried to write a novel and put all these elements in, nobody would have found it believable.

“The story was just so sad. The company was going down, and Maurizio was forced out, and then he was murdered. And it was this story of angst and tragedy. But it wasn’t until Tom Ford took off, and he had his wild collection in 1995, and then the company came back with a vengeance. It was like this rise and fall, and the rise again.”

The film make its UK debut on the 26 November 2021, with this year marking 100 years since House of Gucci’s inception.
