With live music a distant memory in our current climate, the excitement for new tour dates is at an all-time high. Over the past month Fontaines D.C., The Cribs and the DMA’s all announced 2021 tour dates, and IDLES were next up. With the release of their third studio album Ultra Mono looming, a UK tour seemed inevitable. Ultra Mono has a release date of September 25, but four singles from the record are already in the public domain. IDLES kickstarted excitement for the album back in May with upbeat feel-good anthem ‘Mr Motivator‘. Since then, the band have retained engagement from fans, by posting a new song each month.Singles ‘Grounds‘, ‘A Hymn’, and most recently ‘Model Village’, were also met with praise from fans. The band continued to do what they do best – straight-talking, honest lyrics with unmissable riffs and unforgettable choruses. Last Monday they answered our hopes, and announced an 11-date tour across UK & Ireland; their biggest headline tour to date. General tickets were to go on sale just 4 days later, alongside a pre-sale beginning on 26th, for O2 members or fans who had pre-ordered the upcoming album. The response to the announcement was understandably immense, with all pre-sale tickets gone within a day, resulting in even more dates being added.https://www.instagram.com/p/CEd_N8snP2D/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_linkThe band’s date at Victoria Warehouse, Manchester was met with overwhelming demand instantly, resulting in an extra night booked in, followed by a third date at London’s famous O2 Brixton Academy – all before general release tickets. If you’re familiar with IDLES, you’ll know the band’s ever-growing fan base AF Gang, founded by Lindsay Melbourne. Renowned for passionate and energetic audiences, the next live performance is sure to be intense. Following the success of the pre-sale, general release tickets were inevitably met with an immense demand from the public, leading to even more dates being put on the ever-expanding tour. A third night at Glasgow Barrowlands, Dublin Vicar Street, alongside a staggering fourth night at O2 Brixton Academy. An instant feat for IDLES; a 16-date UK & Ireland tour, sold out before the release of the album and before any support acts have been announced. Tickets only remain for their shows at Motorpoint Arena Cardiff, one night at Dublin Vicar Street, Victoria Warehouse Manchester, and Brixton Academy. The band heightened expectation with a 3-night live stream, at Abbey Road Studios last week. With a taster of what’s to come next Spring, the band look set to reprise their renowned role of providing extraordinary live shows.Words by Danni King
