I’m Not Okay (I Promise) // My Chemical Romance
This list would not be complete without mentioning My Chemical Romance. After I discovered Foo Fighters, Kerrang! and Scuzz became a plethora of music discovery for me. So along came MCR, and I found another band to obsess over. But it came with a consequence. I was already getting severely bullied before this, but because I started to wear what the band wore as well as listening to their music, I started getting bullied for being too ’emo’ along with everything else that was supposedly wrong with me.
Luckily, both Foo Fighters and My Chemical Romance were there to keep me sane and became my safe place, for whenever I got too caught up in why I was getting made fun of every day. I remember a lot fans at the time saying that MCR saved their lives and a lot of parents thinking it was absurd, but I agree with the fans. My Chemical Romance did save my life, and I’m eternally grateful for that.
