The producers of Matilda the Musical have launched an open casting call for the role of Bruce Bogtrotter in the new screen adaptation of the show.

The new feature film is set to be directed by Matthew Warchus, who previously directed the Old Vic’s production of Lungs. Filming will take place in the UK and begin in spring 2021.

The producers are looking for a young male actor who is 4”6 or shorter, and will be at least nine years old in January 2021. No previous acting experience is required, although the actor must be a strong dancer.

Bogtrotter is the boy forced by the headmistress Miss Trunchbull to eat an entire chocolate cake in front of his schoolmates after she accuses him of stealing.

Those who are interested should email their name, date of birth, height, and a recent photograph to [email protected] by Tuesday the 8th of December. The auditions will be held in London the following Saturday.

Matilda the Musical – adapted from Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book – premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Courtyard Theatre in November 2010.

In 2012, the show won seven Tony awards, and received a Guinness World Record for the most Laurence Olivier Awards received by a musical.

Words by Ellen Leslie.
