Build A Rocket Boy have released a hotfix for debut title MindsEye, addressing issues with performance and crashing across platforms.
The action-adventure title, helmed by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, launched earlier this month to widely negative reviews, with many players and critics finding its gameplay dull, encountering a multitude of bugs and performance problems, and being left confused by its unusual post-game content.
The hotfix, the first in a planned series that aims to address the game’s technical issues, was rolled out on PlayStation 5 and PC on June 13, with the Xbox Series X|S release set to arrive in the coming days.
A Reddit post from the MindsEye development team laid out the fixes to the game made in the hotfix, such as general optimisation improvements, the ability to change or disable the game’s depth of field effects, and fixes to several minigames.
The hotfix also addresses a “memory leak issue”, which severely impacted the performance of the game and has been cited by the team as “causing most crashes reported by players”. A pop-up warning has been added to the PC version for players with CPUs susceptible to crashes and certain GPU settings disabled.
While the development team has described improvement of performance as their “number one focus”, the game’s reception has led to Sony offering refunds to those who have purchased and installed the game on PlayStation consoles, an act that is typically against the company’s policy. The only other game to receive this treatment is CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, which also released with several technical issues and bugs and was temporarily removed from the PlayStation Store.
Despite its controversial launch, MindsEye has still managed to enter multiple video game charts, being the second best-selling game on the Xbox Series X|S and fourth best-selling game in the UK during the week ending June 14. MindsEye is available to purchase and play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
