White House Down is a movie that only works if you can truly just let go and suspend all belief. As with any Roland Emmerich film, it’s ludicrous and riddled with cliches and forced humour, but it also delivers some of the most fun you’ll ever have while watching a movie. Its target audience is obviously for those with gung-ho American patriotism in their hearts (there’s a scene near the end featuring a character literally waving a giant American flag), yet there’s enough exciting action sequences as well as the enjoyable chemistry between Tatum and Foxx to suck in those who just want to shut their brains off for a couple of hours and still come out feeling satisfied.

Rating: 7/10 – By no means a brilliant film, but it delivers exactly what it promises.
