My Life In Books: Megan Bakewell

Me Before You // Jojo Moyes

n388983Me Before You’ by Jojo Moyes was the first ‘adult’ book I ever read. During a two week trip to France with 20 other family members I’d read all 6 of my books just on the three day journey there. This lead me to scrounging off family members and I ended up crying on a sun lounger after my aunt leant me this. The book got passed around: I think in the end 6 of us all read it and I remember looking at my mother and shaking my head in sympathy as she cried over the characters we quickly fell so in love with. Don’t let me warn you away from it, though; it’s not a ‘suck all the happiness from your soul’ book. Instead, it’s warm and endearing, and you can’t help but think that yes – there is always hope. Will Traynor’s life is in pieces after a motorcycle accident that leaves him confined as a quadriplegic. Enter Louise Clark, who has nothing in common with him, and cue the sixth month whirlwind alongside some of the most inspiring quotes: “Push yourself. Don’t settle. Wear those stripy legs with pride.”
