The acting heavyweights are in talks to star in Aaron Sorkin’s new film, according to Deadline.
Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will reportedly play Lucy and Ricky Ricardo in Being the Ricardos, about the lives of real-life married couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The pair starred in the hit TV show I Love Lucy, which aired from 1951 to 1957.
The film will follow the pair through one production week of I Love Lucy, with Deadline saying it will focus on “a crisis that could end [Ball and Arnaz’s] careers and another that could end their marriage.” Nothing like a good story about marital discord to get us jumping up and down in our seats.
Sorkin, best known for creating the gripping Oval Office series The West Wing which aired from 1999 to 2006, has written the script. Kidman recently starred as Grace Fraser in HBO’s extremely successful The Undoing as well as The Prom. She is reportedly taking over the role of Lucille Ball from Cate Blanchett. Bardem, on the other hand, recently completed filming on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, set for release later this year if all goes to plan.
The film will be produced by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch. It will be Sorkin’s next venture after court drama The Trial of the Chicago 7, released to mixed reviews last year.
Firmer details about when we can expect production on the film to begin have yet to be revealed, as coronavirus continues to cause delays. Here’s to hoping that filming can commence imminently.
