2.  Angela (Ellie Bamber)

When the series came out, the real-life Angela (now) Kane said she was disappointed with the way she was shown as the “dutiful, diplomat’s wife”, rather than just as much responsible for Charles’ arrest as her husband, as was the case in real life. I can understand where she’s coming from, she is a treated a little like a walking translator — a C3P0 rather than a Skywalker. However, that doesn’t stop the on-screen Angela being a formidable character. Even if it does stray from the truth, seeing such a brilliant mind being restricted by her role as somebody’s wife is a compelling story which I’m sure was many women’s at the time, even if it wasn’t quite Angela’s. In the final episode’s flash forward, we see the actress Ellie Bamber, very unconvincingly aged-up to show a middle-aged Angela now as the UN’s High Representative. The cringy-ness of the make-up is more than made up by the joy of seeing Angela having the career she should have had all along.
