13. The Launch

As Sophia struggles to process the fact that her boyfriend of two and a half years has cheated on her, she organizes a blow-out launch party for the Nasty Gal brand. She holds it together right up until the crucial moment, where she discovers everything has sold out and she is a huge success… but then she breaks down.

It is in this moment that the viewer comes to realise exactly how much they’ve come to care for this no-nonsense nasty gal. Anyone who’s ever been cheated on will find it hard not to tear up as Sophia talks things through with Shane, asking him ‘why’, and then kissing him through snotty sobs, before finally saying goodbye. We’ve all tried to put on a brave face and get on with things after romantic setbacks, and we’ve all asked ourselves, “What did I do wrong?”

It’s a shame that it is here that we must leave Sophia, when she is at her most psychologically complex, as unfortunately Netflix have announced they will not be renewing Girlboss for another series.

Verdict: A bitter-sweet but fitting ending to a series which is ultimately a show about people, not clothes.
