The critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake has now sold over 2 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling title in the franchise.

This was confirmed on the official Silent Hill social media accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Despite initial backlash from fans following its announcement, the Silent Hill 2 remake was met with critical acclaim upon its release in October 2024. The story of widower James Sunderland receiving a letter from his deceased wife, calling him to the quiet town of Silent Hill, is considered one of the greatest horror games ever made. The remake was praised for staying true to the 2001 PS2 classic while updating its graphics and gameplay mechanics for modern consoles.

Since the release of the remake, rumours have circulated that the game’s publisher, Konami, may be contracting its developer, Bloober Team, to create a remake of Silent Hill 3. In 2023, Bloober Team released its strategic development plans, stating that they had several projects in the works, including one codenamed Project H. This was later followed by a Twitter user named Planeta_Geek, who claimed to have insider knowledge that Project H is a Silent Hill 3 remake, made in the style of Silent Hill 2. They have since deleted their Twitter account, so their claim should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

Alongside the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Konami has two more games in development. The first is a new mainline title called Silent Hill F, with famous visual novel writer Ryukishi07 (Higurashi: When They Cy) penning the script. The other is a spin-off called Silent Hill: Townfall being developed by Anapurna Interactive. Sadly, this game may have some development issues as Anapurna’s development staff staged a mass walkout in late 2024 citing concern in the company’s direction. Despite this, Konami has confirmed that Townfall is still in development.

These three games will serve as the first Silent Hill games in over a decade since the last title Silent Hill: Book of Memories released in 2012. The series was supposed to receive a new entry called Silent Hills developed by Kojima Productions but this was cancelled when director Hideo Kojima left Konami in 2015. Needless to say, it’s great news for fans that the Silent Hill 2 Remake has been so well received both critically and financially, hopefully leading the series to full revival in the near future.
