This September, Spun Glass Theatre company will open a dedicated family-focused theatre performance space called Play Place in St Leonards, East Sussex.

Play Place will run from 10 September to 1 October, giving parents and babies three weeks to experience live performances, sensory music, movement activities, and workshops for free.

The initiative will also offer pampering events, a Working Mums networking event, puppetry, and baby-friendly shows, which focus on the needs of caregivers and babies.

Creative director Ross Drury commented: “We are working with leading artists and practitioners who make work for the youngest audiences, and we are excited to provide a free place where local parents can drop in, play and have coffee. I’m looking forward to meeting many new faces over a free ice cream at our launch event!”

Every Friday during Play Place, Spun Glass will host First Workshops. These will be fun, restorative, and creative two-hour sessions where parents can connect with one another and their babies alike. Parents are invited to be open about the challenges of early parenthood and, with help from caring facilitators, support each other on their journeys.

Spun Glass’ three-day mini theatre festival will take place over the final weekend of the pop-up event. This will involve a ‘Design Your Own Playground’ activity, a ‘Wonder Gigs’ musical session, and ‘Du Iz Tak?’ puppet performance.

With experience in traditional theatres, schools, community settings, and early years development activities, Spun Glass is a young, dynamic company who create bold, visual theatre productions for all ages. They hope to create a touring pop-up venue to expand innovative early-years’ work across the country.

More information about the programme and details on how to purchase tickets can be found on Spun Glass Theatre’s website.
