‘The Medium’ Delayed To 2021

Xbox Series X/S exclusive The Medium has been delayed by developers Bloober Team, with the new release date set as the 28th January 2021. The latest psychological horror was due to be released on December 10th before the announcement.

In a statement, Bloober Team explained the decision.

“It wasn’t an easy choice to make, but one made due to the Covid-19 situation in Poland, as well as the current schedule of other games on the market… The additional development time will allow us to add further polish”

The global pandemic has lead to numerous delays to titles throughout 2020 with The Medium the latest title hit by the challenges of remote game development for large teams. Additionally, those delays have seen The Medium surrounded by numerous big releases, most notably Cyberpunk 2077 , which will be releasing on December 10th.

The delay is another blow for Microsoft’s launch lineup for the Xbox Series X/S. Whilst the consoles have received plenty of critical praise ahead of their launch, most have pointed to the lacklustre first-party lineup, with the delay of Halo: Infinite into 2021 headlining a struggle for Microsoft to have a AAA title to show the true power of their latest console offering.

The Medium is the latest horror title from Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch), with players navigating a normal world and a spirit world simultaneously as Marianne, investigating a mystery around an abandoned hotel. The game will release on Xbox Series X/S and PC, with the game also being available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

The Medium is scheduled to be released on Xbox Series X/S and PC on January 28, 2021
