The Month in Games – August 2018

Overcooked 2

Step back into the kitchen in this hectic sequel. Players will be able to test their skills under pressure with new recipes to learn, kitchens to navigate and chefs to manage. With Overcooked 2, time is of the essence to keep things running as smoothly as possible in the kitchen. Players will also be able to call upon their friends to help them out, with local, wireless and online multiplayer being a pivotal part of the culinary experience.

Players who pre-order Overcooked 2 will receive the Too Many Cooks pack. This pack will feature an additional five chefs for players to use in their kitchens to give them a head start. In addition, players on the Nintendo Switch will unlock an exclusive Platypus chef to add to their team.

Overcooked 2 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch from August 7*

We Happy Few

Balance is the key to success in this survival adventure. Set in an alternate universe, players will follow the stories of three people in Wellington Wells, a once sleepy town now reliant on a hallucinogenic called “Joy” as they try to erase their past. Arthur Hastings, who works as a newspaper censor, takes on a new perspective while trying to remember a story about his brother while Sally Boyle, one of the developers of “Joy”, is trying to find a new path in life with her work for the mysterious “General”. Lastly is Ollie Starkey, a former soldier living on the outskirts of the town after refusing to take the drug and live like the rest of the townspeople.

Players who pre-order We Happy Few will be able to unlock the Jolly Brolly weaponised umbrella as an additional in-game item. The Deluxe Edition of the game will include a copy of the game, the Jolly Brolly weapon and a Season Pass – which will give players priority access to any and all additional content to be released after launch.

We Happy Few will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC from August 10*

Madden NFL 19

Rise to the top with the latest edition of the football series. Featuring the full rosters from the upcoming 2018 NFL season, Madden NFL 19 will allow players to take their team of choice through all the highs and lows of the sport, against friends online or alone against an adaptive AI. Those looking for a more focused story will be able to enjoy the sequel to Longshot, the single player story following the trials and tribulations of aspiring quarterback Devin Wade

Players who pre-order Madden NFL 19 will receive two special bonuses to help kick-start their progress. First, players will be able to choose one Elite level player from an NFL team of their choice to add to their roster. Secondly, each player will receive five Gold Team Fantasy packs filled with extras and bonuses to help their team succeed. The Hall of Fame Edition will feature the pre-order bonuses along with an additional seven Gold Team packs, a Training Pack, an Elite version of cover athlete Terrell Owens and two custom uniforms for Madden Ultimate Team.

Madden NFL 19 will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 from August 10*

The Walking Dead: The Final Season

A story comes to an end with this final episodic release. In this fourth season, players once again step into the shoes of Clementine, who is trying to get on with her life following her encounter with the Garcia family in the previous chapter. Now focused on caring for her young ward, Alvin Jr., Clementine must make some difficult decisions to ensure the survival of her new family in this ever hostile zombie apocalypse.

Unlike previous seasons, The Final Season will consist of only four episodes, with the other three to be released in the coming months. These episodes will serve as the ending for Clementine’s story, with the series producers stating the door will be left open for the series to return with a new protagonist. Players will be able to purchase each chapter individually or as a whole season. As with previous releases, players will be able to continue their stories as game saves on the same devices will be transferable.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC from August 14*

F1 2018

Immerse yourself in all the action of the Formula One season with the latest edition of this long-running series. Featuring all 21 circuits and all 20 drivers from the 2018 season, F1 2018 will put players in the hot seat as they climb the driver’s rankings. This edition will also see a shift in how players progress, with the emphasis moved away from in-depth development of the cars to focus on the driver themselves, with players being able to hone their skills in full development cycles.

Players who pre-order FI 2018 will receive their game in an exclusive steelbook case. The Headline Edition will also include an additional slipcover as well as an exclusive DLC pack featuring two classic F1 cars – the 2009 Brawn BGP-001 and the 2003 Williams FW25. Players will also be able to purchase the game as part of a bundle with either an Apex (PlayStation) or an Overdrive (Xbox) Racing Wheel.

F1 2018 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC from August 24*

Pro Evolution Soccer 2019

The pitch is your playground with Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. From the Primera Division in Chile, to the Swiss Super League and, exclusively on PES, the Russian Premier League, players will be able to travel through the world of football like never before, putting their teams through their paces and their skills to the test in some of the most challenging football contests that exist today.

Along with the standard edition, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 will also release the Beckham Edition, featuring a whole host of content relating to the former Manchester United and England star. Among the bonus content will be a Premium Agent for 20 weeks, three Player Contract Renewals for 20 weeks, the ability to add Brazilian legend Coutinho, on loan and a true to life, 3D scanned copy of Beckham in game. The Beckham Edition will come in a limited edition gold steelbook case.

Pro Evolution Soccer will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 from August 30*

Free to Play

Gold Xbox subscribers will have four new titles to download and play for free this month. On Xbox One, Forza Horizon 2 will be available from August 1-31*, with For Honor available from August 19 – September 15*. Over on Xbox 360 – and Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility – Dead Space 3 will be available from August 1-15*, followed by Epic Mickey 2 from August 16-31*

Over on Twitch Prime, PC users will have seven new titles to download and play for free this month. From the whole of August, Antihero, Death Squared, Jotun, SteamWorld Dig and a Wizardry bundle featuring Wizardry 6, 7 and 8 will be available to members. To access these games, players simply have to link an active Amazon Prime subscription to their Twitch account.
