Our picks for October's gaming releases

Forza Motorsport 7

The world is your racetrack with the latest Forza release. In Forza Motorsport 7, players will experience the danger and beauty of competitive racing at the limit. Collect over 700 Forzavista cars, including the largest collection of Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini models available in any racing game. Master over 30 famous environments – from the streets of Dubai to the iconic Nurburgring – with dynamic conditions that change every time you race. Xbox One and Windows 10 PC players can also race with each other through cross-play, or try the Driver’s Cup for a new single player experience to challenge even the best racers.

Players who pre-order will receive two exclusive sets of custom driver gear. The Deluxe Edition will feature the VIP Pack which will unlock access to special vehicles and events and give players bonus XP and credit for completing in-game events, as well as a Car Pass – which will include access to six additional car packs for players to use. The Ultimate Edition will allow players early access, exclusive race suits, steelbook case and will also include the VIP Pack and Car Pass.

Forza Motorsport 7 will be available on Xbox One and PC from October 3*


Middle Earth: Shadow of War

 

Return to the realm of Middle Earth in this highly anticipated sequel. Middle-earth: Shadow of War, players wield a new Ring of Power and confront the deadliest of enemies, including Sauron and his Nazgul, in a monumental battle for Middle-earth. Venture beyond the lands of Mordor and discover new locations, allies and enemies in an ever-changing world shaped by the decisions of the player.

Players who pre-order will receive four Legendary Orc Champions & exclusive Sword of Dominion to use in game. The Silver Edition also features a Silver War Chest with in-game bonus items and two Nemesis Expansions – Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe – featuring new enemies, followers, missions and additional content. The Gold Edition includes a Gold War Chest, two-story expansions – The Blade of Galadriel and The Desolation of Mordor – an exclusive steelbook case and all of the bonuses featured in the Silver Edition.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC from October 10*


The Evil Within 2

 

Detective Sebastian Castellanos faces his darkest days in this psychological horror sequel. In The Evil Within 2, Sebastian is trying to rebuild his life after his encounter with the Mobius organization. But, when given the chance to save his daughter, the detective must join forces with the company in order to save her from a world inhabited by nightmarish creatures that twist every facet to ensnare its next victim. Travelling to a once idyllic town – Union – players must guide Sebastian through the altered world around him as he takes his final chance at redemption.

Players who pre-order the game will unlock the Last Chance Pack; which includes an additional handgun along with extra crafting and medical supplies. Also included with physical pre-orders will be a limited edition Union Metal sign for players to display. The Evil Within 2 is also available to purchase with a steelbook case from selected retailers.

The Evil Within 2 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC from October 13*


South Park: The Fractured But Whole

 

Superheroes come to this quiet mountain town in this action-packed sequel. In South Park: The Fractured But Whole, players are once again assuming the mantle of the New Kid and will join the ranks of Coon and Friends. Joining forces with the likes of Coon, Mysterion and the Human Kite, players will be able to write their own superhero saga – complete with unique costume and super-powered skills – as they help to protect South Park from the villainous Professor Chaos.

All players who pre-order the game will unlock Towelie as a buddy and also a digital copy of The Stick of Truth to download. The Gold Edition will include the game and Season Pass, while the Deluxe Edition will include The Stick of Truth and a Costume & Perk pack, along with three special edition artwork postcards. The Collector’s Edition will include a copy of the game, digital copy of The Stick of Truth, postcards, Towelie costume & perks, 6-inch Coon figure and a collector’s box.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC from October 17*


Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

 

Take the fight to the streets with the next chapter of the Wolfenstein series. Players once more step into the world of BJ Blazkowicz, aka “Terror-Billy,” member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity’s last hope for liberty. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus sends players on a mission to recruit the boldest Resistance leaders who are left in America. Fight back against the Nazis in iconic locations such as small-town Roswell, New Mexico, the flooded streets of New Orleans, and a post-nuclear Manhattan. Equip an arsenal of weapons, and unleash new abilities to blast your way through legions of advanced Nazi soldiers, cyborgs, and über soldiers in this first-person shooter.

All players who pre-order Wolfenstein II will receive The Freedom Chronicles – a special opening DLC mission with three new heroes to discover in the fight against Nazi oppression. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes a copy of the game and full Season Pass. The Collector’s Edition will include the game in a limited edition steelbook case, a “Terror-Billy” action figure, Elite Hans collectable box, pocket manual, Blitzmensch poster and accessories for the figure modelled on the clothing and weapons available in-game.

Please note that Wolfenstein II will not be available in certain locations due to banned content.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 from October 27*


Assassin’s Creed Origins

 

Go back to where it all began for this long-running franchise. Assassin’s Creed Origins puts players in the role of Bayek, the last of the Medjay, as he tries to keep the people of Ancient Egypt safe from the influence of a new rising force in the world. After leaving his home village of Siwa, Bayek will go on a journey which will sow the seeds of the Assassin Brotherhood. Under the rule of Queen Cleopatra, players will be able to explore the vast landscapes of this thriving nation with Bayek and his faithful eagle companion Senu – who has her own place to forge in the Assassin mythos.

The Gold Edition features special box art and includes the game, Season Pass and Digital Deluxe Pack – which includes the exclusive Ambush at Sea mission – and the Desert Cobra Pack, with additional outfits, weapons, resources and ability points. The Deluxe Edition also features unique box art, along with a copy of the game’s soundtrack, hand-drawn map and the Digital Deluxe pack. The Gods Edition will include a copy of the game and the full soundtrack, world map, Digital Deluxe and Desert Cobra packs, artbook, 26cm statue Bayek on Sekhmet Goddess statue and the bonus Secrets of the First Pyramids mission.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 from October 27*


Super Mario Odyssey

 

All aboard the Odyssey for Mario’s latest adventure. In Super Mario Odyssey, our hero is once again on a quest to save Princess Peach from Bowser, who has plans to marry the princess. For this adventure, however, Mario is not alone. Also looking for Bowser is Cappy, who has travelled from the land of hats to save his sister from Bowser’s clutches. With his new ally cleverly disguised as Mario’s trademark red hat, Mario will be able to turn the tables on his enemies, with Cappy’s power of possession enabling him to control anyone – and anything – he lands on.

To mark the launch of Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo will release a special Switch bundle, featuring a digital copy of the game, red Joy-Con controllers and a Super Mario Odyssey themed carry case. In addition, three new Amiibo figures will be available for players to use, with Mario, Bowser and Princess Peach dressed in their finest wedding attire. Players who pre-order the physical game will receive an exclusive Cappy hat with the game on release.

Super Mario Odyssey will be available on Nintendo Switch from October 27*


Free to Play

Xbox Gold subscribers will have four new titles available on Games with Gold. On Xbox One, Gone Home will be downloadable from October 1-31*, with The Turing Test available from October 16 – November 15*. Over on Xbox 360, Rayman 3 HD will be free to download from October 1-15* and finally, Medal of Honor: Airborne will be free to play from October 16-31*. As always, the 360 titles will also be Backwards Compatible on Xbox One.

Over on PlayStation, active PS Plus subscribers will have eight titles to download and play for free across the PlayStation family. From October 3*, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Amnesia: Collection will be free on PlayStation 4, Monster Jam Battlegrounds and Hustle Kings will be available on PlayStation 3 and Hue and Sky Force Anniversary will be free on PS Vita & PlayStation 4. As an additional bonus, RIGS: Mechanised Combat League will be free on PSVR and That’s You will also be available for free.
