Exams are drawing to an end, the sun is out and we’re all looking forward to the long holiday that awaits us. We’re all putting on our cheerful playlists, something to get us revved up for some fun and sun, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Snow (Hey Oh)’ is the perfect track if you’re looking for a blast from the past.

Released as the second single on the band’s 2006 double album, Stadium Arcadium, the track spent a whopping five weeks at number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart. It has been used in a number of soundtracks of films and TV shows and remains one of RHCP best loved songs to date.

The track is laced with John Frusciante’s gorgeously undulating guitar riff, while still holding a distinctly rough rocky edge, and smoothly overlain with Anthony Kiedis’s characteristic vocals. As Kiedis describes the song as being, “about surviving and starting fresh […] I have a blank slate – a canvas of snow  – and I get to start over”, it seems a fitting song to start your summer to.
