5. Different Angle // For All My Sisters

Taken from the band’s latest studio album For All My Sisters, a pop-oriented endeavor that has been noted for being their most accessible record so far, ‘Different Angle’ is described by Ryan Jarman as one with “a classic Cribs riff”; it is as classic as it is incredible. It is an explosive entrance to the track; a four-minute venture into evolving perspectives on skewed relationships, exploring sentiments of deepening desires, and possible unrequited affection. Its lyrics are devastatingly poetic, Ryan Jarman combining sentiments of youth love runaways and broken fantasies: “Meet me outside, we’ll run away like we’re kids / like Bonnie and Clyde, or something just as stupid…”

The chorus itself is meteoric, tapping on heartstrings and dripping with heartfelt ache and longing: “If you look at me from a different angle / do you see something you just can’t handle?” It is arguably one of the few Cribs songs where the Jarmans collapse their heart open for the world to see, exposing their vulnerable and rawer side for all to indulge: “Some days I feel like I’m made out of glass / I think I’m better off keeping my distance, cause maybe they can see right through me.”
