Track Review: Captain // Alfie Jack

Alfie Jack are a pair of brothers from Lincolnshire (not, surprisingly, called Alfie and Jack but rather George and Freddie) and together the duo have created a song so catchy it’ll have your feet continuing to tap long after it’s over. ‘Captain’ is the boys’ debut single, and one that speaks in metaphors and youthful rebellion towards the eponymous “captain” who “likes to treat [them] like [they’re] thick” and doesn’t appreciate their hard work. Any person, young or old, who’s ever been employed will surely know the feeling.

Accompanied by an official video that sees the pair swaggering in front of various minimalistic backgrounds, the song is a middle finger to those who like to abuse their positions of authority, though admittedly done in a rather passive aggressive and harmless way. Their boyish energy and upbeat enthusiasm, however, make them an immediately likeable addition to the ever-growing indie-folk scene – keep your eyes peeled for the words ‘Alfie Jack’ to undoubtedly appear in the festival circuit one day. In the meantime, you can keep up to date with their work on SoundcloudFacebook and Twitter.
