Track Review: Come And Get It // John Newman

After taking a step back from the limelight to work on his new album, John Newman is back with a long-awaited taste of his brand new second album, Revolve. You could say it’s pretty good, to say the least.

Newman first came into the spotlight after being featured on Rudimental’s single ‘Feel The Love’ in 2012 and subsequently had great success with Tribute, his platinum debut album, which was released in 2013. More recently, he’s been behind closed doors working on this album, but now, it’s fair to say he’s reinstating his place in the music charts. ‘Come And Get It’ persists with the pop/soul sound that made his first record so successful. It’s easy to listen to and is extremely catchy, with a chorus of brass supporting his distinctive vocals throughout the track. It’s very different from the music being produced by current chart-topping artists with the use of live instruments, and so gives some much needed variation from the increasingly tiresome electronic/synthetic music that has been hogging the Top 40 of late.

The track was both written and produced by John Newman himself, as well as Greg Kurstin, who has an extensive array of artists on his CV, such as Years and Years, Kelly Clarkson and Lily Allen. ‘Come And Get It’ has left many people eagerly awaiting the further singles from this album, as well as the entire record itself. Critics and fans alike are calling it the tune of ‘Summer 2015’, and after a couple of listens to this excellent comeback track, it’s hard not to agree with them.

‘Revolve’ is set to be released on 16th October 2015.
