Track Review: I Want to Know What Love Is (Cover) // Pink Milk

When referring to the infamous hit number from ballad-rockers Foreigner, the first thing that comes to mind is often a sea of long-haired, denim-clad dads. But, with the recent emergence of painfully cool cover aficionados Pink Milk, it seems that the middle-aged rocker stereotype of this particular work could be transformed forever.

As with any great covers, the band have truly transformed a heavily clichéd song to make it their own. With a darkly sultry vocal to replace that of the unnervingly emotive original, and a loosely grunge addition of jangly guitar-work, Pink Milk have clearly taken it upon themselves to lend a generous coating of cool to the the track. As the ominous soundscape shudders to a close, all is made complete with the distant hiss of percussion and a dash of dreamlike feedback, solidifying every second as satisfyingly other-wordly.

If you would be partial to a Jesus and Mary Chain cover of Berlin’s immortal classic Take My Breath Away, this is most definitely a group you cannot afford to ignore.
