Katie Gregson-MacLeod has embraced a new era with ‘Mosh Pit’ off the back of her February single ‘Teenage Love’.
Describing it on Tik Tok as a “hazy summery love song”, the ‘Complex’ singer has formed a tight knit community here, since her sudden rise in 2022. While using the space to tease new music, MacLeod also sees the value in vulnerability as she recently shared her experience of navigating the music industry and her subsequent recent label switch.
From the slow burn release ‘Teenage Love’ Katie Gregson-Macleod has joined forces with Matt Maltese’s Last Recordings on Earth label, releasing ‘Mosh Pit’. The recent singles see MacLeod collaborate with producer Josh Scarbrow, a household name for fans of Maltese and Rachel Chinouriri.
‘Mosh Pit’ gives voice to a pensive, observant MacLeod “Handed me your jacket / And you threw yourself into the crowd / In the palm of grunge rock / Watching as your head bobbed in and out”. The stripped back single, accompanied by MacLeod’s own string arrangements, give up control, forcing complete attention to acute lyrics of being watched and known “I could have watched you forever / All lit up and breathing in the moon / I could have watched you forever / But forever ends so soon.”
The release of ‘Mosh Pit’ comes after ‘Teenage Love’ which saw a slow burn release, with MacLeod teasing the new track since January.
Describing her last EP as a place of “inauthenticity” with the pressure to “compromise” from her previous label, her recent releases emanate catharsis and ownership.
The Scottish songwriter has also announced her new EP Love Me Too Well, I’ll Retire Early and a upcoming IE & UK tour.
