Track Review: Someone Else // More In Luv

Hailing from Merseyside, More In Luv are an indie-pop quartet who have been making their mark on their local scene up in the North West of the UK. Despite all the difficulties the music industry had as a whole in 2020, they managed to really get themselves noticed with the release of their debut single ‘All I Wanted’ in Summer 2020 and their debut EP Local Celebrities in autumn 2020. With a relatively positive year now behind them, More In Luv are gearing up for what they hope will be an even more successful 2021.

Their latest single ‘Someone Else’ dropped earlier this month and there’s no denying that it’s a brilliantly infectious slice of indie-pop! The track is very much in the vein of bands like Fickle Friends and The 1975, as well as having splashes of the synth pop sensibilities of Years and Years. It’s a very guitar-driven song, full of the kind of funky intricacies you’d expect to hear on songs like ‘Girls’ or ‘Chocolate’ by The 1975. This is carried by some great, tight drumming and bass playing in the background. The production provided by experienced producer Gareth Nuttall sounds great too; it’s shimmery and modern while at the same time having the character you get from an old-school, gritty rock production.

There’s a wonderfully earnest vocal over the top of everything that carries the super relatable story of the track. While it may be a summery-sounding serotonin-booster of a track, it’s lyrically a tale about what happens when somebody close to you changes for the worst. That’s something that we’ve all definitely experienced no matter what the context may be, and that message being drenched in such a glittery and summery vibe makes the song all that better as a listening experience.

Going into 2021 with a song as strong as ‘Someone Else’, it looks like More In Luv could be on for a brilliant year!
