Track Review: To Love // Suki Waterhouse

Suki Waterhouse has released a new single, three months after her EP Milk Teeth dropped.

The singer, model, and actress, who is currently starring in Amazon Prime’s Daisy Jones and the Six TV series, dropped the single on March 3rd.

‘To Love’ is a song unlike any of Waterhouse’s previous works, a romantic meditation on love and the joy it brings to life. You can hear the disbelief and happiness in Waterhouse’s voice as she sings, especially powerful considering the heartbreak that lurks in the background of her other releases.

‘To Love’ utilises Waterhouse’s angelic voice ingeniously. The constant harmonies in the background give the song an ethereal feel, and the soft piano at the beginning immerses us into the dreamlike state the track provokes.

The lyricism is equally beautiful. In particular, the bridge is masterful, with the lines ‘Now I found myself this kinda love, I can’t believe it / I’ll never leave it behind’ showcasing Waterhouse’s incredulity at her happiness. Her joy shines through with this song, making it a beautiful listening experience.

Waterhouse first played the song on her Coolest Place in the World tour, stating in an interview with Rolling Stone that ‘I felt like it is a very distinct portrait of my heart right now that I wanted to share. I started performing it on tour and got so excited that I wanted to share it with everyone.’  The singer has been dating Robert Pattinson for four years, and is evidently so happy that she can’t help but express it in song.

To Love is a mesmerising listen, one of my all-time favourite Suki Waterhouse songs. It is the kind of song that you will have on repeat all day, just because it is that beautiful. Waterhouse manages to capture the euphoria of being in love with yet another astounding track.
