Listen closely and you’ll be able to hear the chants of joy. Yes, after what seems like an eternity of waiting for more casting news, (we’re not ready to talk about the loss of Michael Pitt quite yet) Fannibals were finally given a tasty morsel to chew on. Beloved star of stage and screen, Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, Into the Storm) will step into the shoes of Will Graham’s nemesis, Francis Dolarhyde, for the show’s long-anticipated third season.

As with all shows, the rumour mill surrounding the now infamous character’s casting has generated a huge buzz amongst the online community of dedicated fans, with many looking towards the likes of Lee Pace or David Tennant to bring their talents to the role. Whilst Armitage’s casting came as quite the surprise to some, response to the news has been (unsurprisingly) overwhelmingly positive. His acting prowess and affinity for the tortured souls promises an excellent and refreshing take on a beloved bad guy, and we can’t wait to see Armitage work his wonderful magic on Dolarhyde.

Season 3 of Hannibal is set to return later on in the year.
