Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish studio behind Alan Wake and Max Payne, have thanked players of their latest co-op FPS title FBC: Firebreak as the game passed the one million players mark.
In a post on X, the team said: “This is a significant milestone, so thank you for playing from all of us at Remedy”. The post also addresses the post-launch content and improvements promised to players in the coming year, acknowledging that “there is still a lot of work ahead of us” but that the team is “super-motivated” in implementing these changes.
FBC: Firebreak is Remedy’s first multiplayer title, following a 30-year history of developing highly praised single-player experiences such as 2019’s Control, which Firebreak acts as a spin-off to. Remedy published a Steam post alongside the game’s first patch discussing the obstacles of releasing their first multiplayer game while addressing complaints from players, saying: “Launching FBC: Firebreak is a significant milestone for us, not just because it’s our first online co-op game, but because we’ve self-published it as well. Several things have gone well. Clearly, not everything has.”
The game’s reception has been mixed from players and critics alike, with some finding it to be a shallow experience from a gameplay and narrative perspective. Gamespot gave a positive review, deeming Firebreak quite enjoyable past an unintuitive early game, while IGN found the game more mediocre, yet still enjoyable, with a lack of interesting mechanics to keep the game fresh and interesting in the long-term.
Remedy has planned several fixes and patches for the game that will directly address issues with the early game, improving UI, and speeding up player progression. The team also plans to add at least two new levels to the game before the end of the year, with more to come in 2026. Work on Firebreak coincides with other major projects the studio has planned for release in the coming years, such as a sequel to Control and remakes of Max Payne and its first sequel.
FBC: Firebreak is available to purchase and play on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is also available to play for free on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus (Extra and Premium Tiers only).
