A core group of former Boss Fight Entertainment developers has officially launched a new independent studio, Sunwise Games. This marks the next chapter for the team behind acclaimed Squid Game: Unleashed. The studio formed in 2025 after Netflix shut down its internal games division last fall, a decision that led to Boss Fight’s closure even as its flagship title continued to perform strongly in the market.

Sunwise Games is led by founder and CEO Irin Berry, who previously served as a senior engineer on Squid Game: Unleashed. Rather than dispersing after the shutdown, 26 developers chose to remain together and build a new studio. The team has since expanded to 30 developers, each bringing an average of roughly 14 years of industry experience across systems-driven design, live operations, scalable production pipelines, monetization and community-focused development. Collectively, they have shipped hundreds of commercial titles and supported large-scale live games over many years.

Netflix acquired Boss Fight Entertainment in 2022 as part of its broader push into mobile gaming. Squid Game: Unleashed later surpassed 10 million downloads on Google Play alone. The game also reached the number one position in 26 countries. Despite that success, the studio was swept into a wider corporate restructuring as Netflix realigned its gaming strategy under new leadership.

Berry said he founded Sunwise Games with a long-term vision in mind, prioritizing sustainability over short-term survival. “This team is different because it consistently chooses discipline over hype and execution over aspiration. Sunwise reflects the kind of studio culture I believe the industry needs to build sustainable, high-quality games,” he said.

“I created Sunwise because it’s the change I want to see in the games industry: clear scope, ethical monetization, and teams built to deliver reliably over time. The studio is designed as a durable business, not a short-term bet. I’m excited to prove that this model works at scale. Sunwise is positioned to show that disciplined production and long-term thinking can create both strong returns and enduring games.”

The studio is currently developing its first original game, a new IP shaped by the team’s shared history and creative philosophy. Sunwise Games stands as a clear example of veteran developers choosing independence and long-term stability within an industry shaped by frequent strategic realignments. Stay tuned as the studio plans to share more details about its first project in the coming months.
