The official trailer for the fourth and final season of Netflix’s teen sex comedy drama Sex Education has been released ahead of its premiere this week.

The fan-favourite series primarily follows Otis (played by Asa Butterfield) who decides to become a makeshift sex therapist at his school, Moordale Secondary. After reading his mum Jean’s (Gillian Anderson) notes from her career as a professional sex therapist, Otis quickly earns a reputation amongst his peers.

The show’s supporting cast are five stars; they include Otis’ best friend Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), love interest Maeve (Emma Mackey), lovable Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) and former bully-turned-softie Adam (Connor Swindells).

Season four shows no let ups for the students, as they continue to contend with various dilemmas. After Moordale’s closure and the culmination of Otis and Maeve’s will-they-won’t-they tension at the end of season three, we have lots of catching up to do. You can watch the trailer for the final season of Sex Education below.

Since its debut in 2019, Sex Education has earned its stripes as one of the most hilarious yet heart-warming coming-of-age series to date. With over 40 million viewers tuning in for the first series, the show has gone on to win an Emmy for Best Comedy Series. Fans have been buzzing with excitement at the prospect of one final charismatic goodbye.

As filming on the fourth series came to an end, Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn released a statement confirming the bittersweet news that the season would be the student’s last hurrah: “This was not an easy decision to make, but as the theme and stories of the new season crystallised, it became clear that this was the right time to graduate.”

“It’s been overwhelming seeing how the show has connected with people around the world, and we hope it’s made some of you feel less alone too,” Nunn wrote. For the millions the show has touched with its bright and informative hilarity, let’s get some tissues and celebrate the end of a very special era.

The eight-episode final season of Sex Education premieres on Netflix on 21 September. The first three seasons are available to watch now on the streaming platform.
