The X page for last year’s action-adventure hit Stellar Blade has been fully restored after being targeted by cryptocurrency hackers.
The hacked account posted AI-generated imagery advertising a Stellar Blade crypto coin, with replies turned off to deter followers from warning others against the scam. Game director Kim Hyung-tae took to his personal X page to warn fans, confirming that the page had been compromised and that the coin was not a legitimate collaboration with Shift Up, the studio behind the game.
In a later post, Hyung-tae also noted that the website attached to the scam was also designed to resemble Shift Up’s own website. The fake site advertised that holders of the coin would receive exclusive in-game perks and “voting rights to shape the game’s future”.
The Stellar Blade X page was recovered around two days after Hyung-tae’s posts. The studio posted an apology to the account, saying: “We deeply reflect on this incident and will take every measure to ensure it never happens again”. The page’s bio was also updated to reflect the studio’s return to it.
Stellar Blade launched in April 2024 to great success, topping Steam’s global top seller list upon the release of its PC port in June of the same year. According to Eurogamer, both a Switch 2 port of the game, as well as a full sequel, are reportedly in development, with the latter launching as early as 2026. Stellar Blade is now available for purchase on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
