Sky has released the official teaser for a new original series The Iris Affair, which is set to air this autumn.
The 45-second trailer provides us with a glimpse into what appears to be a tense cat-and-mouse thriller set along the balmy Italian coast. It features Tom Hollander (The White Lotus) and Niamh Algar (Mary & George), who appear to make an interesting duo, going head-to-head in the nail-biter that the video description says, “pits two brilliant minds against each other.”
The man behind the eight-part series is Neil Cross, writer and creator of Golden Globe Award-winning series Luther. Speaking on the series, Cross says, “all [he] wanted to do was to make a show [he] wanted to watch,” and promises an “unapologetically exciting, witty, chase-driven adventure show.” The teaser boasts Cross’s claims; we see high-speed car chases, masked gun men, problem-solving, explosions, all the while Algar (who plays Iris Nixon) and Hollander (who plays Cameron McIntyre) intermittently make tongue-and-cheek exchanges.
Set to star alongside Hollander and Algar are a string of actors including Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Sacha Dhawan (Doctor Who, The Great), Harry Lloyd (Arcane, Marcella), newcomer Meréana Tomlinson (The Trials), Maya Sansa (Good Morning, Night), Peter Sullivan (Poldark, The Borgias), Debi Mazar (Younger, Entourage) and Lorenzo De Moor (A Simple Favor 2, Dolce Fine Giornata).
If fans loved Cross’s crime thriller Luther for all its emotionally complex characters, psychological twists, and dynamic duos, then there is a lot to be said about The Iris Affair. Sky promises code-breaking, suspense and a “deadly game of hid and seek”, in the picturesque, summery Mediterranean, a nice alternative to the cold and grey heart of London where Luther was set.
The Iris Affair, co-produced by Sky Studios and Freemantle, will be available both on Sky and NOW TV in the UK and across Europe later this year.
