The up-and-coming British-Indonesian musician Nadia Kadek has revealed that her first EP, Green Car will be released via Transgressive Records on October 17. But before that, to commemorate the announcement she’s now come forth with a new single ‘Always Almost Losing You’, the lead track for this EP. Kadek, who is well-known for her evocative alt-pop and indie-folk fusion, has recently been gaining a devoted fan base through her compelling live performances.

In an interview with Clash Magazine, Kadek said that creating this track “felt really emotionally charged, a mix of frustration and anger that was really just masking the sadness I felt for a friend.” She went on to explain that it’s about the great concern that accompanies such intense love. The audience is drawn into a very intimate story by this lyrical setting, which gives the listening experience a heartbreaking element.

‘Always Almost Losing You’ is a masterwork of controlled escalation in terms of the music. A stark, acoustic-driven foundation opens the song, putting Kadek’s crystal-clear vocals front and centre. The lyrics’ increasing emotional weight and ambiguity are reflected in the song’s minimalist production, which is layered with delicate textures like a thumping kick drum and subdued notes. Similar to the song’s themes of inner struggle and retreat, the instrumentation rises to a strong, climactic moment before fading. Kadek’s lyrics are subtly potent, beginning with a soft tone then delving into more serious topics of addiction and anxiety, and ending with the heartbreaking confession, “I’m always almost losing you.”

This new single is a captivating preview of Nadia Kadek’s debut EP and demonstrates her exceptional ability to blend intricate, multi-layered production with unvarnished lyrical honesty. Her status as an artist to watch is cemented by this song, and is set to make her way into the canon of great modern songwriters.
