Sigrid has yet again succeeded in giving the music world a bright and uplifting track which is sure to get you up and moving ‘like a jellyfish’.
The Norwegian pop sensation just released her new single ‘Jellyfish’ on 11 July, after a long-awaited two years since her last music release, an EP titled The Hype. The song is just over three minutes, filled with a fresh and playful vibe, the beat of which lingers in your head long after the song ends. It signals a new musical era for Sigrid.
The ‘Strangers’ singer has had her fair share of pop bangers, and she is set for more success with this new single, which serves as a fresh sound for her eager fans. She describes ‘Jellyfish’ as the feeling of forming a connection with someone, whether that’s in a platonic friendship or in the giddy early stages of a newfound relationship. It is also about learning to be free and not care how you look. Her lyrics perfectly capture this idea: “We’re just two kids in a crowded room / Chemistry in awkward deliveries / Just me and you, and all our insecurities / If you go dancing, I’ll go dancing too / If you’re a loser then I’m just like you”
The moment you press play on this new track, you are exposed to an upbeat and exuberant sound which continues throughout. It is clear from this track that Sigrid does not want to take life too seriously. She will dance and ‘move like a jellyfish’ even if it seems awkward. Sigrid is a singer who brings a lot of character to her music through her honest lyricism and her charismatic tone, serving as the key to her fame and success as an artist.
She posted a snippet of the track on TikTok a week ago, which got people excited to hear more as they agreed that it had a summery and flirtatious vibe.
‘Jellyfish’ is the essence of a fun, free-spirited Sigrid, which is sure to be played on repeat this summer. It is a departure from her anthemic and powerful tunes, such as ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’, instead leaning towards the softer and lighter side of life. This song also marks the first time Sigrid is credited as a co-producer, possibly signalling a more personal, creative shift in her discography in the future.
Sigrid will be busy this summer, playing at festivals across Europe, including Switzerland, the United Kingdom and her native Norway. Festival-goers can expect to hear this vibrant sound live and could be the first to hear some more new music.
The overarching thought fans will have at the backend of this release is whether this was a one-off just-for-fun track or a lead single of a potential new album approaching very soon.
