The second teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO horror series IT: Welcome To Derry has been released, showing off more of the surreal and terrifying scares that lie in the fictional town of Derry, Maine.
Welcome To Derry takes place in 1962 and acts as a prequel to the 2017 smash film IT along with its 2019 sequel, both of which are adapted from the classic Stephen King novel of the same name. The two films were directed by Andy Muschietti, who is helping to develop the series and will return to direct multiple episodes. The series will also see the return of actor Bill Skarsgård, who portrayed the evil entity that haunted Derry in the films and often took the form of a horrifying clown named Pennywise.
Other cast members include Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo and James Remar, all of whom appear in the teaser trailer. James Chalk will also appear as Dick Hallorann, a character that appears in multiple King novels and was notably portrayed by Scatman Crothers in Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1980 film adaptation of The Shining.
The new teaser doesn’t show off much new, but does give a better look at things seen in the first teaser, such as a plot following the disappearance of teens and young children, a new family moving into Derry, and a group of children investigating the evil things happening across town, not unlike the Loser’s Club from the films and original novel.
According to Muschietti, there are three planned seasons of Welcome To Derry, each of which will take place in earlier successive time periods and will reveal more about the mystery that ended with It: Chapter Two. The second and third seasons are set to take place in 1935 and 1908.
Consisting of nine episodes, the first season of It: Welcome To Derry is set to release on HBO in October this year, with a UK release planned on Sky TV. The teaser ends, as did the first trailer, with a short look at Skarsgård’s pennywise as he reaches out and grabs the hand of an unseen figure, surrounded by fire, as he prepares to terrorise screens everywhere once again.
