According to data from NielsenIQ and Game Sales Data (GSD) reported on by The Game Business, Sony’s PlayStation 5 line of consoles took the lead in console sales during Black Friday late last month, taking 62% of sales in the UK, as well as 47% of sales in the US.

Sony announced a wide range of discounts and deals on PlayStation 5 consoles and games to coincide with Black Friday on November 28, including a £135 discount on digital-only models of the original console.

The Game Business reports that UK console sales during Black Friday this year were, in general, 7% higher than in 2024. While PlayStation 5 consoles led sales in the US, they were followed by Nintendo’s Switch 2 (which took a 24% share), and the Nex Playground, a console aimed towards families and small children (14% share).

Exact numbers on Xbox sales in the US were not made available, though it seemingly sold less than the Playground. In the UK, Xbox Series X and S consoles accounted for 10% of all sales, according to the Game Business report.

The report also noted a 5% share for Nintendo’s original Switch console in the UK, as well as a drop in sales of gaming accessories and virtual reality headsets compared to last year. Best-selling titles during the period included titles like Hogwarts Legacy, EA Sports FC 26, and Battlefield 6.
