Tactical first-person shooter Ready or Not has surpassed 1 million units sold on console in less than four days, setting a remarkable new record for Irish developer VOID Interactive. The game launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 15, with the milestone sales figures confirmed by the studio on July 19.

The console launch significantly outpaced the game’s earlier PC debut, which took approximately 36 days to reach the same benchmark. Combined with its earlier PC sales, Ready or Not has now crossed 10 million units sold globally—an impressive feat for an independently developed title.

“When we launched Ready or Not on PC, it took about 36 days to reach 1 million units sold. On console, it took about 3.6 days,” said VOID Interactive CEO Julio Rodriguez. “I’m incredibly proud of the team and what we’ve accomplished together. It’s a huge moment — and one we don’t take for granted.” He also thanked players and supporters who backed the project from the beginning.

Creative Director and COO Stirling Rank echoed the sentiment: “The response from console players has completely blown us away. Going from the days of excitement, from our Early Access trailer blowing up on PC to seeing the community grow globally across platforms is humbling.”

The record-breaking launch sales follow a period of controversy surrounding changes made to the game ahead of its console release, which garnered criticism from some online players of the PC community. VOID Interactive modified elements and implemented adjustments to several aspects of the game — including gore, violence, nudity and depictions of child endangerment, citing platform requirements and development streamlining as reasons for standardizing content across versions.

The studio explained that maintaining separate builds for PC and console would increase the likelihood of bugs. However, many longtime PC players criticised the move, accusing the developer of censorship. The backlash was immediate, with the game’s recent Steam reviews temporarily dropping to “Mostly Negative.” A mod that reversed the update’s changes was released within minutes of it going live—however, it has since been taken down.

VOID Interactive stood by its decision, describing the changes as relatively minor and noting that most players might not have noticed them without prior disclosure. Despite the backlash, Ready or Not continues to receive strong critical reception, holding an 83 on Xbox Series X and an 82 on PlayStation 5 via Metacritic. The overall user rating on Steam remains “Mostly Positive.” Crossplay functionality is now fully supported, allowing players to squad up across platforms. The studio has also confirmed that ongoing updates, performance fixes, and additional content are in development.

Founded in 2016, VOID Interactive has positioned Ready or Not as its flagship title. The game puts players in the role of SWAT teams navigating high-risk, realistic scenarios involving hostage rescues, bomb threats, and armed suspects. With an expanding player base and momentum on its side, Ready or Not is poised to remain a major contender in the tactical FPS space.

Play Ready or Not now on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
