The National Theatre Announces Programming Up Until April 2023

The National Theatre has confirmed programming for shows through April 2023.

Standing at the Sky’s Edge (directed by Robert Hastie) will be performed at the Olivier Theatre; Phaedra (directed by Simon Stone) will be performed at the Lyttelton Theatre; while Kerry Jackson (directed by Indhu Rubasingham), Romeo and Julie (directed by Rachel O’Riordan) and Hamlet (directed by Ellie Hurt) will take place at the Lyttelton Theatre.

Standing at the Sky’s Edge

Standing at the Sky’s Edge is a Sheffield-based musical which follows three families over six decades through the stories of a local housing estate. Running from 9 February to 25 March 2023 at the Olivier Theatre, Standing at the Sky’s Edge stars Darragh Cowley, Ahmed Hamad, Samuel Jordan, Bobbie Little, Robert Lonsdale, David McKechnie, Maimuna Memon, Baker Mukasa, Alastair Natkiel, Faith Omole, Adam Price, Nicola Sloane, Jake Small, Deborah Tracey, Rachael Wooding, and Alex Young.

Phaedra

A modern adaptation of the ancient Greek tragedy, Phaedra follows a politician shaken by the reappearance of her stepson. Running from 9 February to 8 April 2023 at the Lyttelton Theatre, Phaedra stars Assaad Bouab, Mackenzie Davis, and Janet McTeer.

Kerry Jackson

“El Barco is the newest tapas restaurant in fashionable Walthamstow Village, and it’s Kerry Jackson’s pride and joy”. Running from 07 December to 21 January 2023 at the Dorfman Theatre, Kerry Jackson stars Fay Ripley, Madeline Appiah, Michael Fox, Michael Gould, Kitty Hawthorne, Gavin Spokes, and Anita Reynolds.

Romeo and Julie

A modern love story inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Julie follows two Welsh lovestruck teenagers from disparate backgrounds. Running from 21 February to 1 April 2023 at the Dorfman Theatre, Romeo and Julie stars Callum Scott Howells, Rosie Sheehy, Catrin Aaron, Paul Brennen, and Anita Reynolds.

Hamlet

Running from 20 March to 28 March 2023, Jude Christian’s adaptation of Hamlet will play at the Dorfman Theatre before embarking on a six-week school tour across England.

Current Productions at the National Theatre

The National Theatre is currently running productions of Othello (directed by Clint Dyer), Hex (directed by Rufus Norris), The Crucible (directed by Lyndsey Turner), Blues for an Alabama Sky (directed by Lynette Linton), and The Boy with Two Hearts (directed by Amit Sharma).
