An adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s novel Alice in Wonderland will open at Theatre Peckham this April.

Aptly renamed Wonderland in Alice, the upcoming show has been described as an “eerie, transcendent adaptation,” unravelling the captivating chaos of Carroll’s work to present an ever-evolving world of, “No Rules. No Time. No Binary.” The show will delve into the complexities of expressive movement theatre to convey empathy and empowerment toward gender awareness and self-authenticity.

The titular role of Alice will be played by professional dancer Kira Nichols. Further casting is yet to be announced.

Of their casting, Kira said: “I am beyond excited to be playing the role of Alice. As a non-binary person, it means so much to me to play a character like this, bringing necessary representation and awareness to gender identity.”

The production team will be comprised of Lisa Millar (she/they) as director, Shaun Rimmer (he/him) as sound designer, and Caitlin Taylor (they/she) as writer of spoken word. Christopher Tendai (he/him) will take on the roles of artistic director, producer and choreographer.

Tendai is no stranger to adapting renowned works, having choreographed and produced shows such as Wuthering Heights (the musical), Bare, and The Natural History Museum Gala Events. He expressed further delight at his announcement via Twitter:

Wonderland in Alice opens on Thursday 6 April, and will run until Sunday 23 April. Tickets are on sale now.
