A new report from MP1st has revealed that the PlayStation 5 version of Bethesda Softworks’ sci-fi RPG Starfield, alongside its second expansion pack, may be set for launch sometime in Spring 2026.
Starfield, which was the first new original IP from Bethesda in 25 years, was announced in 2018 and eventually released for Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs in September 2023. While the game was received well by many, with GamesRadar+ giving it a 5-star review, the game was criticised by outlets like Eurogamer and Rock Paper Shotgun for feeling too big and empty and having many of the same problems that Bethesda’s RPGs have had for decades.
The game’s first DLC pack, Shattered Space, was released one year later to a more mixed reception. While IGN gave a mostly positive review, saying: “…Even though the inventory is still bad and the temples remain maddeningly repetitive… Those improvements have gone a long way toward making this a game I’m glad I took the time to revisit”, the game’s Steam page does feature a “Mostly Negative” score from players.
The MP1st report claims that a follow-up expansion to Shattered Space will launch alongside the PlayStation 5 port of Starfield, with TheGamer pointing out that this could be a perfect opportunity to release a “complete edition” of the game, as Bethesda is known to do with their titles. The report also mentions that the poor sales of Shattered Space could be the reason behind the seemingly delayed release of the second expansion and port after studio head Todd Howard mentioned wanting to push story expansions out annually for the foreseeable future.
Starfield, alongside Shattered Space, is available now to purchase and play on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs through the Windows Store and Steam.
