And just like that… Karen Pittman will not be returning to And Just Like That… for the upcoming third season, a representative for HBO Max has confirmed. Pittman, who starred as Professor Nya Wallace in the first two seasons of the Sex and the City sequel series, finds herself fully booked ahead of filming for the third season that is set to start this May. As a new addition to the original cast, Pittman was praised for her role and cited as fitting in more naturally in comparison to Sara Ramirez’s Che Diaz, who also recently confirmed they would not be returning for the third season.

Aside from her role in AJLT, Pittman is well known for her part in Apple TV’s The Morning Show, being nominated for a collection of SAG awards as a part of the ensemble led by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. It’s this role, as well as her recent casting in the new Netflix series Forever, that are preventing her from continuing to play Nya Wallace, friend and lecturer to Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). Throughout her story arc, audiences witnessed Nya struggle to conceive with her husband Andre (LeRoy McClain), a struggle that eventually led to the dissolution of their marriage in the second season.

In discussing the news of Pittman’s exit with The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for Max stated that “it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible” concluding that both “Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors”.

In light of the news, the internet continues its derision of the Sex and the City revival, with one twitter user comically stating, “What did I put up with Aiden shxt for if Nya wasn’t coming back? Highly anoitedly ANNOYED”.

Another user poked fun at a common criticism of the series: the underuse of the new, more diverse, cast members. “How tf am I supposed to enjoy this show without checking in with Professor Nya Wallace for 30 seconds every other episode to see if she made soup or did the laundry??”

And Just Like That… premiered in 2021 to mixed reviews. Originally billed as miniseries, the series was a hit with viewers, prompting Max to renew the series for a second season. The second iteration received stronger reviews and even bigger numbers, lending to a third season renewal last summer. Filming is set to begin this May, once star Sarah Jessica Parker returns to New York from London after completing her Olivier-nominated run in Plaza Suite at the Savoy Theatre.
