The PlayStation 6 and the new Xbox console could both be released in the same year. Two separate insiders have information that suggests these new generations for Sony and Microsoft will be ready in 2027.
KeplerL2 has reliably leaked information in the past, most notably on former AMD hardware. This time, the user took to NeoGAF to suggest that Sony’s next console, the PS6, should be expected in 2027.
The leak followed the lead architect of the PlayStation 5, Mark Cerny, revealing new technological advancements called Project Amethyst in a recent YouTube video. The video also teased that the technology would be used in a “new console in a few years time”.
From this, KeplerL2 claimed that a 2027 release date “is not just on the table, it’s the plan unless unexpected delays happen”.
A separate leak for the next Microsoft console also suggested a 2027 release date. Youtuber Moore’s Law is Dead uploaded a deep dive into the rumoured AMD Magnus APU. He claimed that this chip will be used in the next Xbox system.
Throughout the video, Moore’s Law is Dead said that he has “heard from even more sources” that Microsoft is “openly saying 2027 is when Magnus launches”.
Five years on from the release of the previous Sony and Microsoft consoles, fans have long been speculating when the next generation is coming. If these rumours are true, fans will only have to wait two years.
The most recent releases from the two companies you can get your hands on now are the ROG Xbox Ally, released this month, and the PS5 Pro from November 2024.
