Last year’s remake of Konami’s classic 2001 horror title, Silent Hill 2, seems to be making its way to Xbox platforms after an M rating for the game appeared on the website of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

Developed by Poland’s Bloober Team and published by Konami, the Silent Hill 2 remake was a complete, ground-up reimagining of the original horror masterpiece, compared by outlets like PC Gamer to Capcom’s recent Resident Evil remakes. It was also the first mainline instalment in the Silent Hill franchise in over a decade, following Silent Hill: Downpour in 2012.

Upon its release on October 8, 2024, Silent Hill 2 was initially exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console for one year, although a PC version was also available. The Silent Hill franchise has a strong history with the PlayStation brand, with the first game released in 1999 for the original PlayStation, and the third instalment originally released only on PlayStation 2 and Windows, with a remastered Xbox 360 release nine years later.

Now that Sony’s exclusivity deal with the game has come to an end, it seems a release for Xbox Series X|S is on the horizon. The ESRB, the regulatory body that reviews video game releases and assigns age ratings based on their content within the US, has previously leaked information regarding a remaster of Horizon: Zero Dawn, and a similar situation regarding Doom Eternal occurred in 2021, when the Australian Government’s Classifications website posted a listing for its Ancient Gods – Part Two DLC, the first hint that the much-delayed expansion was close to release.

While speculation over the listing of a potential Silent Hill 2 Xbox port has arisen following the classification, no official announcements have been made by Konami, Bloober Team, or Microsoft. Silent Hill 2 is available to purchase and play now on PlayStation 5 and PC.
